What is the difference between body wash and shampoo?

Indigo Smith asked:

The both clean so how are they different besides the obvious (body wash is for your body and shampoo is for your hair)?
Well they both pick up and wash away oil (which is where bacteria and dirt is trapped) so I don’t see how (chemically) they can be much different…
