Does using body wash instead of a bar of soap in the shower reduce/prevent soap scum build up?

I use liquid body wash, husband refuses to switch from his bar soap, but I swear the soap scum is much worse with the bar. Does anyone know if this is true?

The bar has wax and oil products that stick to things whereas liquid soap does not.

I use a mild shampoo as a body wash, much less expensive and no soap scum.
